Biggest movie stars of Africa, filming workshops, human rights, women empowerment, red carpet; Out of Africa International Film Festival (OOAIFF) is here! HAFF, Helsinki African Film Festival, is co operating with OOAIFF, based in Nairobi, and we are in the front row, following the idea forming into action. OOAIFF is organized for the first time this year 30.10.-1.11. It is a platform that brings together global independent filmmakers, producers, promoters and other stakeholders in a common space to explore their stories freely and market the films to a global audience. The timetable is tight so with Elsa, we were requested to assist with the communication and marketing of the festival. We have created a communication plan and a daily timetable to organize our strategy and to make sure we reach our goals on time. The festival program consists of various movies, both long and short as well as fictions and documentaries from all over the globe. The opening film, I will not be Silenced, is a story about battle for justice for an Australian woman who has been raped in Kenya, and by screening it the festival wants to raise the issue of slut shaming and more generally victim blaming. More about the movie and the whole festival you will find from the facebook site of the event:

Stay tuned!

I’m AK, Finnish lady, traveling with my amazing two year old daughter. I am infinitely curious and tend to see the silver lining in every situation. The dream of saving the World little by little (and maybe myself in the meanwhile) has brought me to Africa again. I have a degree in Sustainable Development and now I’m completing my master’s studies in Communication for Development at University of Malmö. I’ve spent one year in East Africa doing my internships at first with Forestry Training Institute in Arusha (Tanzania), then in Thika (Kenya) and Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) with Shalin. Currently I’m based in Mbarara (Uganda), and work in communication and marketing with EHC, Excel Hort Consult Ltd, a partner of Shalin. During my stay I’m doing research for my master’s thesis about stakeholder communication within development projects. I’ve also been assisting Out of Africa Film Festival with communication and marketing as well as done bit everything here and there.
