- Seven years as Country Director for Earthwatch Institute, an International NGO in Environmental Conservation and Education with core competency in climate change science.
- PhD Graduate in Animal Physiology from Lincoln University, New Zealand, and MSc graduate in Conservation Biology from University of Nairobi.

Has 19 years experience in research, policy advocacy and project evaluation in development sector. After graduating in Geography from Jahangirnagar University he obtained an MS in Environmental Science from the State University of Bangladesh in 2004.
His specialization is in natural resources management and rural development research. He also works on policy advocacy with a special emphasis on indigenous knowledge. Sukanta Sen has an interest in participatory approach and methods, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and Environmental Management System (EMS).
He has participated in national and international workshops and trainings including the following:
* Participated in a 10 days conference on Planet Diversity and Convention on Biological Diversity in Bonn, Germany from 12-22 May, 2008
* Participated in a 3 days workshop on “Rice Diversity in Asia” in Jakarta, Indonesia in April 2008.
* Participated in a 4 days ‘Climate Change and Adaptation Conference” in Ahmedabad, India in March, 2008.
* Participated a 4 days international experts workshop (March 2007) on Indicators for Indigenous Peoples related to Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in Philippines jointly organized by Tebtebba Foundation and CBD Secretariat.
* Participated in a exposure visit to Philippines from 11th September to 24th September’2005.
* Participated a five day training workshop (April 2004) on ‘Gender assessment indicators” held in Sweden at Civil Society Centre, Harnosand, Sweden and jointly organized by DIAKONIA and Forum Syd, supported by SIDA.
* Participated a three day long Research Plenary Workshop organized by the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES)- Japan held in Hayama, Japan on 10-12th February, 2004 & 3-4 March 2005, as a member of Global Study Team supported by the Ministry of Environment, Japan..
* Participated a 3 week long training course on “Managing development project and programmes” conducted by IMA International, held in Brisbane, Australia in March’ 2001, sponsored by DFID Bangladesh.
Worked as Research Team leader with various studies on natural resource management, climate change adaptation and indigenous knowledge supported by UNDP, UNESCO, IDRC, MISEREOR, IOM, DfID, Oxfam, actionaid, IGES etc.
Has contributed articles in national and international journals and periodicals. Also contributed in publishing 7 books based upon research findings. Editing a monthly news letter on environment and people’s knowledge and annually journal “Grassroots Voice” and “Trinamul Uddyog” on indigenous knowledge and development.
